In reality, obesity is not an easy problem to fix for most people. There is no magic pill for healthily losing weight and becoming fit. However, because we as humans take the path of least resistance, we will try everything short of diet and exercise to reach our desired end result.
The term “diet” is often misused in modern language. Diet is everything that one consumes during a day. When we diet for weight loss, we cut a lot of the fat and excess calories out, so that they do not accumulate and the body burns the stored fat instead. Unfortunately, this has the downside of not being able to eat some of the food one most enjoys. To circumvent this, we will try preconceived diets that somebody somewhere said were good ideas. While a few of these are legitimate plans created by dieticians, far too many are just gimmicks. Cut fat and excess calories. That is how we diet. We do not have to buy zero-impact space age exercise equipment to burn fat. In fact, there is no such thing as targeted fat loss, although these machines often attempt to convey that there is by demonstrating which muscle groups these machines work. Certain muscle groups can be worked, and the muscles can become more developed, but fat burning can not be targeted to a specific area. Any exercise that increases one’s heart rate, aerobic exercises, will eventually burn fat. Even though it not the most entertaining exercise, running is all one really needs to do. Of course there are concerns about wear and tear on the knee joints, but aerobic exercise, like running, is sufficient for burning fat. Given the increasingly busy life of the average American, it is no surprise that we are looking for more ways to maximize our productivity, even when it comes to weight loss. But there is really no healthy alternative to diet and exercise that does not involve drastic surgery. For the majority of the population, eating right and exercising are all it takes.
