“Twitter has not replaced any of our tried and true tools,” Moreno said. “However, it allows us to send messaged to stakeholders who choose to receive their news and information through social media outlets.” French teacher, Denise McCage said she is curious to see what the new Klein ISD Twitter account is going to offer. “I am a member of Twitter, and I did start following Klein ISD,” McCage said. “I have a Facebook french club, so I always try to use as much media and internet connections and ways of communicating as possible.” According to Moreno, so far Klein ISD is using Twitter to send live updates from key public meetings, post photos showing Klein staff or students being interviewed by members of the media and to announce good news and teacher awards. Klein ISD is also using Twitter to share student’s achievements and district recognition. Twitter is also being used to help drive traffic to the Klein ISD website by posting messages directing people to kleinisd.net. “We have had a variety of people sign up,” Moreno said. “Parents, staff, member of the news media and taxpayers. We have around 170 followers so far, but we have only publicized it for a few weeks.” Moreno also said Klein ISD will use Twitter for school closing information, and any emergency information that is needed to be communicated. The Klein ISD Twitter account can be found online at http://twitter.com/KleinISD.
