“The investigators ruled it ‘undetermined’,” Jenkins said. “But [they] suspect something of an electrical nature in the ceiling.”

Insurance prevented a devastating financial loss, and according to Jenkins the current economic recession is actually helping rebuild his business.

“The economy has caused no additional problems in rebuilding,” Jenkins said.  “In fact, it has actually helped, as building materials are less expensive now.”

Jenkins’s entrepreneurial spirit and care for his employees kept him from closing his business for even a day.

“Business continued on day one post fire,” he said. “We never closed, even though the entire car wash building and wash bay was completely destroyed. However, God had another plan for us. We were able to keep employees on the payroll by having them provide hand washing services to our customers.”

Kevin Jenkins’s daughter, Shelby, is a senior here. Shelby Jenkins said this experience has revealed much about her father’s character.

“It showed me a lot about my dad and how strong he is,” she said. “He was more concerned with his workers’ wellbeing than his own.”

These sentiments are echoed in Kevin Jenkins’s own words.

“The fire and resulting loss did not change my life. It was a test of faith, though.”
